I just bought some pocket wizards and I really like them. I'm not sure which model I got, but it's the one that is a tranceiver. You used to buy both a transmitter and receiever, but they've changed it so that each one does both. You will need three to control two flases. Let me know if you have any other questions about them.
Aside from the fancy LCD on the Multimax, I think the only difference is the channels. If you are not shooting where you are sharing the strobes with 20 other photographers, The tranceivers are perfect. (I think)
The plus II will work fine for 2 or 3 flashes. 4 channels will do. The 32 channels on the multimax is a little overkill unless you are shooting in a studio with a bunch of strobes. Another cool thing is that you can setup a remote camera and trigger it with the PW. John
